Onam is a large, significant festival for Malayalis, and is celebrated with lots of pomp and circumstance through out Kerala. This holiday kicks off in mid-August, also known as Chingam. This is the first month of the Malayalam solar calendar. 

The festival begins on the day known as Atham and culminates on the 10th day, Thiru Onam or Thiruvonam, which means “Sacred Onam Day”. From beautiful decor to fabulous fashions, this period is a time where Kerala really shines.
